Give A Hoot?

Yeah, yeah, I know it's cliche, but I couldn't resist! Turns out I was watching Martha Stewart's Halloween special a week or so back and I saw this owl cupcake flash on the screen for a second, and it caught my eye. I made a mad dash for the remote, and THANK GOD for TIVO! I rewound it and froze it to analyze it, and make it!

How did we ever survive without TIVO and cell phones???

Anyway, enjoy making him. This one also is really easy, I promise!

For this one, you will need a bag of regular, normal pretzels. The round part at the bottom is his beak, and the rest of it is his eyes. Be very careful cutting them, but if they break, they still work. A serrated knife works best to cut with and BE GENTLE!

The tips I used for this cupcake are a No. 3 round and a Leaf Tip.

Whatever shade of brown, gold, green or purple you choose to use for the feathers will have to be put into an icing bag, with coupler, and half with white. You could skip this step, but they don't look as nice as a solid color. Once you get the icing into the bag, just squeeze it out until it flows the color you like, and you're ready to begin!

Put a thin layer of white icing on the cupcake. It doesn't have to be neat and pretty because it's just for the white of his eyes.

Next, goes the pretzel. Yes, I broke mine, but I used it anyway. Feel free to eat the leftovers!

Then with a No. 3 round tip and black icing, pipe the rounds for his eyes.

Next, take your double colored bag with leaf tip and start going around the edges making leaves for the feathers. Make sure you keep the same side up as you go around the face.

Keep going, working your way up to the middle.

This is the final face with all the icing left. Or is it???....

Lastly, put on your missing piece of pretzel, providing someone hasn't snatched it and ate it! And....there you go! One adorable owl! How cute would these be on a table in all different shades of fall colors?

You Little Devil!

What would Halloween be without the little Devil? I don't know about you, but for me it always conjurs up memories of old boyfriends! Make a few of these today. Everyone has someone befitting for one!

These are the tips I used: No. 3 round and No. 10 round.

Start off with a plain cupcake. I airbrushed it red, but you can use red icing. Get it as smooth as you can with the handy, dandy roller!

Then, with the No. 10 round tip and white icing, pipe the rounds for the eyes.

Then, with the No. 3 round tip and black icing, pipe the rounds for the pupils and draw on his eyebrows.

Then, with the No. 3 round tip and pink icing, pipe the round for his nose.

Then, with the No. 3 round tip and black icing agin, pipe the smile and then in the middle of the smile, draw a upside down triangle and fill it in with an up and down motion-as if you were coloring it in with a pencil.

Next, I used some fondant. Make 2 balls the same size. Roll one end down to a point and stand them up. Smooth and flatten them until you have the desired shape. I airbrushed these red, but you can put the red dye into the fondant also. Let them dry for about 20 minutes.

Put them into place, and there you have it - one adorable little devil cupcake!

Somebody will love that you made these for them!

"I Vant To Suck Your Blood!"

Or some other cheesy dracula line! Halloween wouldn't be complete without a dracula in the bunch so here is Monster No. 9 in all his glory!

Notice the theme here? They really are pretty easy to make! These are the tips I used for Dracula: No. 3 round and No. 5 round.

I started with the cupcake, a bag of cream cheese icing and the coupler.

Ice your cupcake and get it as smooth as you can. This is where the small off-set spatula comes in handy. You can't use the roller on cream cheese icing because it's way too sticky, and it will just stick to the roller and make a big mess!

Next with the No. 5 round and white icing, pipe the rounds for the eyes.

Then with the No. 3 round and black icing, pipe the pupil of the eyes and his mouth.

Next, with the No. 3 round and white icing, pipe his fangs. Just squeeze a little and pull down.

Then, with the No. 3 round and pink icing, pipe the round for his nose.

Next, I had to throw in a little red gel for affect! It's cute and you can get it at the grocery store. Actually, you could use the red gel for ALL your Halloween cupcakes!

Last, but not least, the do! With the No. 3 round tip and black icing I started in the middle and just squiqqled my way left, to the middle, right, to the middle - until his hair befits the prince of darkness.

That's all there is to it-try some out today. Your little "blood suckers' will thank you!

Monster No. 8 is the Wolf Man! Even I have to admit this one is pretty stinkin' cute!

These are the tips I used: No. 3 Round, No. 5 Round, No. 10 Round and a grass tip.

Start off with a grass tip and chocolate icing.

Start going around the cupcake with the grass tip...

Continue to go all the way around until the entire cupcake is filled in.

Then, with the No. 5 tip and yellow icing, pipe the rounds for the eyes.

With the No. 3 round tip and black icing, pipe the rounds for the pupils.

With the No. 10 round tip and chocolate icing, pipe a large round and build it up for the snout.

Here's the side view...

Again, with the No. 3 round and black icing, pipe the nose round on the end of the snout.

Continue with the same tip and black icing and pipe the mouth.

With a No. 3 round and white icing, pipe the teeth. Squeeze and pull.

With the No. 5 round and black icing, pipe two oblong shapes for the middle of the ears.

Then with the No. 5 round and chocolate icing you are going to pipe an upside down V - one side on each side of the black oblong shape to form the ears.

Stop squeezing and pull the icing to a point at the top of the ears.

And whoa-la! One adorable, cute Werewolf cupcake for Halloween!

13 Monster Cupcakes of Halloween: Witchy-Poo

This is Cakin' Crazy - the David Cakes link at the right. I love his style and he's lots of fun. Check out his fun, easy Halloween cakes!

My Halloween Monter No. 7 is Witchy-Poo. I didn't have a hat, but a cute witch anyway!

These are the tips I used: No. 3 round, No. 6 round and a grass tip.

I started with a plain white iced cupcake that I airbrushed neon green. I also made a HUGE nose out of fondant. Take a piece of fondant and roll it down thin at one end to make the point. Stand it up and smooth it. Add a wart or two and point the nose the way you like.

This is the side view so you can see how large I made the nose.

Next, use the No. 6 round tip and white icing to pipe the rounds for the eyes. Then with black icing and a No. 3 tip pipe the rounds for the pupils of the eyes.

Next, with the No. 3 round tip and black pipe the eye lashes. Squeeze a little icing and pull it straight up.

With the same tip and black icing, pipe the mouth.

Next, I took the No. 3 round tip and white icing and piped straight lines for the teeth, just squeeze them a little thicker than normal. Then I used the No. 3 round tip and black icing and outlined the teeth.

Lastly, I used the grass tip and black icing and piped on the hair. I started at the top and went down. There are about 3 layers of icing to get the hair to fill in nicely.

I hope you enejoyed Monster No. 7. If you can find or make a hat that would add to the cuteness!  Tune in tomorrow for happy cupcake decorating and Monster No. 8!
